Alberta Health Services
In May 2008, the Minister of Health and Wellness in Alberta announced the creation of the Alberta Health Services (AHS). The AHS is the central body responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of health services and supports across the province of Alberta. It has amalgamated 12 previously separate health authorities in the province and includes in its jurisdiction acute/urgent care hospitals, long-term care (nursing homes) & continuing care, labs and imaging centres, cancer care, addiction and mental health services, public health, emergency services and EMS (ambulance services) as well as other types of health service settings and resources such as homecare and various therapies. The goal of this newly created organization is to streamline health care services for Albertans. For 24/7 Health advice you may contact HEALTHLink Alberta at 1-866-408-5465.
